Families throughout Central Massachusetts and MetroWest choose Bancroft School for its robust college-preparatory academics and supportive community. The Bancroft experience fosters good people who emerge as leaders, humanitarians, and globally engaged citizens. Bancroft students develop deep connections in the community, and form lasting relationships with faculty, coaches, and peers. Each child’s individual learning style and interests guide their explorations into core academics, arts, sports, and co-curriculars. Founded in 1900, Bancroft is Greater Worcester’s leading independent PreK–12 day school.

Bancroft seeks a full-time sixth grade science and math teacher and advisor beginning in January 2019. The ideal candidate for this position will have a life/environmental science background and experience with project-based learning. The candidate should also possess the ability to teach pre-algebra (we use the Math in Focus curriculum) and run an inquiry-based classroom while teaching young middle schoolers the various skills they need to succeed in sixth grade and beyond.

Willingness to collaborate in the development of curriculum across disciplines within sixth grade is necessary, as well as a desire to seek opportunities for collaboration in the greater Worcester and Blackstone Valley communities.

Candidates should be able to utilize technology as a teaching tool in our one-to-one device environment, and bring interests, expertise, and fresh ideas to our Middle School Clubs program. The ideal candidate will be excited to participate in all aspects of school life, including advising sixth grade students, leading clubs during the school day, and potentially coaching in our interscholastic sports program.

This job may be for you if you:

  • Have science/math teaching experience in a middle school classroom.

  • Feel a strong personal alignment with Bancroft School’s mission and values.

  • Feel a strong professional alignment with Bancroft’s Learning Laboratory Method, a project-based approach to teaching and learning.

  • Have experience or expertise teaching students with language-based learning differences and understand the philosophies that drive our Hope Graham Program.

  • Can be a model for adolescents and colleagues when it comes to working hard, having a good sense of humor, staying curious, trying new things, being enthusiastic, and demonstrating original and creative thinking, all while being kind and inclusive.

  • Are willing to search for fresh and creative opportunities to strengthen and build upon Bancroft’s Middle School program.

  • Are fearless about jumping in wherever and whenever you’re needed.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related subject matter is required. An advanced degree is preferred.
